Star Wars: The Old Republic to have Same Sex Relationships

I have been following the development of SWTOR since it was first announced a few years back. Everything is looking pretty great! Bioware have obviously put a lot of thought and effort into crafting what i’m sure will be a great new page in the History of  MMORPG’s. However a few months back Bioware caused a stir when they revealed that the game would not feature the option to have romantic relationships with computer controlled companion characters of the same sex. This differs from Bioware’s other hugely successful game series, Mass Effect, Where you could foster relationships with a NPC regardless of their sex.

Just now on the Official Forums of SWTOR Bioware’s Stephen Reid announced that they are planning to add the option to the game in a content patch that will be released sometime after the game comes out.

Official statement follows:

Due to the design constraints of a fully voiced MMO of this scale and size, many choices had to be made as to the launch and post-launch feature set. Same gender romances with companion characters in Star Wars: The Old Republic will be a post-launch feature. Because The Old Republic is an MMO, the game will live on through content expansions which allow us to include content and features that could not be included at launch, including the addition of more companion characters who will have additional romance options.

This will be great news to the hundreds on the official forums and other online boards that have be arguing the case for same sex relationships for months.

So will you pursue a same sex relationship in the Star Wars Universe? or do you think this is a mistake on Bioware’s part?
