Step Beyond the TARDIS – Doctor Who Extra

I thought it was a sad day when Doctor Who confidential ceased to be made. I’m one of those people who really like to understand the process of putting a programme together and sometimes those insights helped me appreciate an episode better. The BBC is looking to alleviate some of my sorrow. That’s how I’m going to look at it anyway!

Starting after each episode of&npsp; Doctor Who &npsp; finishes (the series begins once more this Saturday, 23 August 2014 at 19:50), &npsp;Doctor Who Extra  &npsp;is a series in ten minute chunks that follows Peter Capaldi in the production of this eighth series of the re-launched show.  Doctor Who Extra  airs on the BBC iPlayer. In addition to looking at the making of the program, each episode will take a look back at the history of Doctor Who in order to see how the present series reflects the past.

I have to say, this seems like an excellent move. As a flagship show, Doctor Who has always made good use of the online platform to produce prequels and mini-episodes that were never aired elsewhere and this step into more informational programming is a great idea. My only gripe is the relatively short length. That’s because I’m a greedy one!
