Apple Unveils the iPad Mini & 4th Generation iPad

Steve Jobs once said Apple would never make a 7″ iPad as 7″ was to small for a tablet….well Tim Cook  obviously doesn’t think that was as Apple has just unveiled a 7.9″ iPad Mini along side a 4th generation iPad. Well maybe the Nexus 7, Kindle Fire HD, Galaxy 7.7, Nook HD and those other 7″ tablets helped change Apple’s mind.

The new iPad mini will be available in black and white and will come with 16, 32 or 64GB memory. The entry wi-fi-only model, with 16GB storage, will cost £269 in the UK and be available on 2 November. The other wi-fi-only models will cost £349 for 32GB and £429 for 64GB. Apple also announced a 3G version but cost are yet to be confirmed.

Other specs are:

iOS 6

5MP (iSight) rear camera capable of 1080p video recording

720p front-facing FaceTime camera

1,024 x 768 screen resolution

Lightning connector

On a gaming side a smaller iPad will be even better for iOS gaming and will again be another death nail for dedicated handheld systems like the PSVita and 3DS.

Additionally with only a few months since the release of the 3rd generation iPad aka the New iPad, aka iPad 3, Apple also unveiled a 4th generation. The new iPad shares much of the same features of the 3rd gen version but with the A6 chip found in the iPhone 5, enhanced camera features and also the new lightning connector. The iPad 2 also stays in the iPad family but is now only available with 16GB of memory.

  1. i understand that the 3G is an added £100 to the wifi only costs… far too much IMHO for a tablet…
