Xbox One vs Playstation 4 Specs Comparison

Xbox One-vs-PS4For the Tech geeks out there there, here is a comparison chart of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles. Things look very similar and the good news for developers if that things will be a lot easier for multi-platform games development. No more PlayStation versions of Skyrim that are virtually unplayable. So when comparing their specs, the PlayStation 4 slightly edges it on the power front with its DDR5 memory compared to The One’s DDR3. Both systems run on the x86 processor platform meaning that we basically will have two high end PC’s making development far easier on both especially for the PS4 compared to the complicated and often criticised by developers PS3.

Both consoles use a Blu-ray optical drive which seemed the only direction Microsoft could have gone down with the expected size of next generation games and the 360 already seeing some games come on 2 or 3 disks. With motion control, all Xbox One’s will come bundled with a Kinect 2.0 sensor while the PS4’s new Dualshock 4’s motion can be tracked by the PlayStation Eye.

PS4 Dualshock 4Kinect 2.0

One very important factor will be the release dates and prices. Both consoles are slated to be released later this year but there is no confirmation on which regions will get them in 2013. Regarding price, Sony were hit hard with the original high price of the PS3 which led to a quicker than expected price drop and introduction of a revised console with several features being removed from original. The x86 nature of both systems meaning less custom components like the PS3 Cell processor, should mean reasonable and certainly lower than the original PS3 launch prices. Saying that the bundling of Kinect 2.0 will all Xbox One could lead to higher price that expected.

So how do the Xbox One and PS4 differ? Well Microsoft focussed on the entertainment features of the One at the reveal event while Sony focussed on the gaming features of the PS4. Moving forward it seems that this will continue to be the main selling points of both systems. Microsoft want you to believe the Xbox One is the ultimate entertaining systems for you home while Sony are saying the PS4 is the ultimate gaming console.

The choice will be yours.

One thing to note is that although the Nintendo’s Wii was a key console in the current generation, not many people are mentioning the Wii U in any conversation about the next generation console wars.
