The Doctor Returns for a 7th Series

Confirmed today, the BBC announced that they have commissioned a 7th series of fantastic sci-fi series Doctor Who. I’ve been on a Dr. Who kick for a few weeks now — finally watching the show starting from the 9th Doctor and loving every moment of it, so very happy to hear this news! The 14 episodes will likely consist of a Christmas special and 13 regular episodes. This year’s Christmas special will begin filming next month, with production for series 7 starting after that.

The series’ showrunner, Steven Moffat revealed the news via the Doctor Who Magazine Twitter feed and also confirmed that Doctor Matt Smith will be returning, making this his third series as the 11th Doctor. What’s unknown at this point is whether or not Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill will return to their roles as well.

Doctor Who recently aired its midseason finale, “A Good Man Goes to War,” in the UK. The episode will air on Saturday, June 11, in the U.S., on BBC America. The show will return in the fall to finish out its sixth series, starting with the episode “Let’s Kill Hitler.”
