The Final Days of Kickstarter – Torsobear: Yarns from Toyburg

With all the thousands of Kickstarters that are currently running it’s easy to find a campaign you love, plan to support it  and then promptly forget all about it. Have no fear gentle geek for here at GS I have the same problem. My biggest miss being the Five Ghosts Kickstarter, although that one did work out in the end without my contribution of a tenner.

Each day this week I thought I would  feature those Kickstarter campaigns that are nearing the end of their campaigns in case and of you geeks flush with a little extra cash want to jump onboard at the last minute.

Before I get started if there is anyone out there working on comic, web series etc who is in the last ten days of their project then drop us a line ([email protected]) and I’ll see if I can give it a mention in one of these posts.

Right without further ado take my hand as we head for the fluffy noir metropolis that is Toyburg.

As I’ve only recently started to watch True Detective the line ‘Teddy Ruxpin via True Detective’ as mentioned by one of the creators is what pricked my ears up. This tale of dismembered teddies is just the one of noir style tales to be found in this 104 page comic anthology.

In the fluffy noir world of Torsobear, not all toys play nice!

Welcome to the city of Toyburg, where the sweet streets are teeming with crime, passion, and murders most foul. They are walked (for the most part) by grim detectives, burned-out has-beens, femme fatales and tragic heroes.

The dismembered bodies of teddy bears are being found in back alleys of Mindy Mile district, and it’s up to our hero, rookie detective Ruxby Bear and his partner officer Hazbrow to solve this string of murders, no matter how high and far the clues take them.

Between cases, we take a look into the lives of Toyburg’s citizens, police and criminals. No matter where you turn, this city has something sinister hidden just behind the storybook surface.

Remember, it’s always fun until someone gets hurt…’

What’s in it for me?

Here are some of the perks on the Torsobear Kickstarter that stood out for me.

DIGITAL COLLECTION – You receive a digital PDF/CBR version of Torsobear, Brett Uren’s previous comics Kuzimu Volume 1 & 4 issues of The Vale, plus the wallpaper. This level and all above have their name listed in the thank you section of Torsobear: Yarns from Toyburg.

I liked the fact that they aren’t just offering the anthology itself for this perk but some other comics as well.

YOU ARE A TOY – You receive a print copy of Torsobear, a t-shirt, plus you will be drawn as a toy into the book itself, plus one piece of original art from the book by Brett Uren or Saoirse Towler, plus a sketch card of you as a toy. This level and all above have their name listed in the thank you section of Torsobear: Yarns from Toyburg. Pledge includes £10 for shipping within the UK.

If I was going to do this I would go with a Tom Stone style action man lookalike and if you don’t know who Tom Stone is then for shame on you. Still waiting on my Tom Stone CGI reboot.

FINAL WEEK ONLY! BACKERS THAT TAKE US PAST 5% MILESTONES GET A FREE ORIGINAL SAOIRSE LOUISE TOWLER HAND-PAINTED PAGE!!

Nice idea to have a perk linked into the final week of a campaign to drive a little more interest. It doesn’t hurt that the sketches on offer look lovely. If you check out the kickstarter page for the project there are also some other final week perks.
