The Hunger Games Casting News: May the Odds Be Ever in Your Favor!

If you’re a fan of The Hunger Games, it should come as no surprise that if a book series is popular (like Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings), someone will bring it to life on the silver screen. Lionsgate is turning the first book of Suzanne Collins’ trilogy into a movie directed by Gary Ross (Pleasantville).

For those who haven’t read the series, it is set in a post-apocalyptic America and follows 16-year-old heroine Katniss Everdeen, who must participate in an annual fight-to-the-death event called the Hunger Games.  The remaining books are likely become movies as well if the first brings in the cash at the box office (and the praise of fans of course), unlike The Golden Compass from Phillip Pullman’s His Dark Materials.

So who’s playing strong-willed Katniss Everdeen, lovestruck baker’s son Peeta Mellark and mysterious hunter Gale Hawthorne? Up until a few weeks ago, anyone really! Names were thrown around left and right – some hoping for True Grit‘s Hailee Steinfeld, Weeds‘ Hunter Parrish and The Forbidden Kingdom‘s Thomas McDonell; others hoping for complete unknowns.

Well, the casting has already begun to be announced and you get a mix of both! To be honest, I was rooting for Parrish all the way as well as Skins’ Kaya Scodelario but alas, they didn’t make the cut. Who did?
