The Monster Hunters Coming to Camden Fringe this August

Roy Steel and Lorrimer Chesterfield, the best Monster Hunters in the business are bringing their adventures to the stage this August.

This year has been the year I’ve rediscovered my love of audio dramas and one of the highlight on my playlist is the Monster Hunters, a glorious piss take of all things 70’s horror. If you loved the Hammer films and shows like the Hammer of House of Horror, The Avengers, the Champions and the Persuaders then you’re going to feel right at home with the in-jokes for this audio drama.

However the voice actors don’t confine their ongoing war against the supernatural to the microphone they also take to the stage to bring us The Monster Hunters Live. Newgate Productions, the team behind the show, will be putting on this live show as part of the Camden Fringe. One of the GS team attended the first live show at the London Horror Festival and this is what he had to say about it.

SHOW REVIEW: The Monster Hunters

The show will be taking place at the Etcetera Theatre in Camden on the 4th and the 5th of August. If you want a taste of what to expect check out the audio dramas here.

PRESS RELEASE – Camden Fringe 2012

The Monster Hunters

Newgate Productions presents: THE MONSTER HUNTERS

Newgate Productions pays tribute to a classic era of British Horror films in a new live show.

London, 1971: Assigned by Sir Maxwell House to investigate London’s newest nightspot, The Discothèque of Nights, Roy Steel and Lorrimer Chesterfield must run a gauntlet of beautiful but deadly vampire twins who force them to remember some of their most dangerous cases. Roy faces betrayal by an old friend and a mysterious bog creature stalking the marshes of Eastern Europe, while Lorrimer is the target of a mummified hand on a mission of vengeance. Can they face their fears and together end the vampiric truth behind the deadly disco?

Written by Peter Davis and Matthew Woodcock (“Sherlock Holmes Strikes Back!”, “The St. Valentine’s Day Murder”) and first performed at the London Horror Festival to great acclaim, “The Monster Hunters” brings the world of 1960s and 70s British horror films to the stage in a nostalgia-filled affectionate spoof of a much loved genre. Steeped in the lore of the famous Hammer and Amicus films, such as “Dracula AD: 1972”, “Blood from the Mummy’s Tomb” and “Dr. Terror’s House of Horrors”, as well as mixing in a dash of “The Persuaders!”, “The Monster Hunters” will return you to a time of wide collars, excessive whisky drinking and unashamed fisticuffs, all with a heavy dose of Kensington Gore.

PRAISE FOR THE MONSTER HUNTERS:

‘Crazy and hilarious…every Hammer fan should try to catch this show.’ Geek Syndicate

‘A successful horror film spoof that…pays homage to its various sources.’ Lawrence Raw, Radio Drama
