TRON’s Light Cycle is Street Legal

Raise your hand if you were one of the many who wished they could own one of the wickedly cool light cycles from TRON: Legacy! Well, if you’ve got $55,000 USD lying around, you can own one!

Each bike is built to order by the New York City-based Hammacher Schlemmer and it was designed for casual cruising and slow ride-bys at shows. You’ll have to ride practically horizontally (just like in the film); imagine showing up at San Diego Comic Con in one of these puppies?

For those really into cars and bikes, here’s some of the specs:

  • Made from a steel frame covered by a fiberglass cowling
  • Electroluminescent strips built into the tire cowlings, wheel rims, and body
  • Powered by a fuel-injected Suzuki 996cc, 4-stroke engine
  • Padded leather seat with foot pegs
  • Control 6-speed constant mesh manual transmission on the handlebars for throttle and braking
  • Hubless wheels are former truck tires built up then custom-shaped to fit onto one of two counter-rotating rims spinning within each other
  • Chain-driven friction drum manages acceleration and braking from the handlebars
  • Spring-loaded front and rigid rear suspension
  • Wet sump lubrication system eliminates tubes and hoses for oil pick-up
  • Uses a 3 1/2-gallon main fuel tank and 1 1/4-gallon reserve tank
