TV REVIEW: The Big Bang Theory Season 5 Episode 5 – The Russian Rocket Reaction

Bernadette is not best pleased when Howard announces that an invention of his means that he is going into space. Meanhile, old arguments flare up as Leonard and Sheldon are invited to a party in Will Wheaton’s house.

Bernadette may be slowly turning into Howard’s mother, but she still wants Howard to treat her with respect. She calmly, and rationally tries to talk Howard out of his space mission, but resports to some dirty tricks when he does not see things her way. Episode 3 may have been all about Amy, but this one is Bernadette’s show. She may seem to be the sweet and quiet type, but she is not above resorting to telling tales to get what she wants. This may not be the most adult way of dealing with a problem, but it proves that Bernadette is a woman who knows what she wants, and how to get it.

Once again, Sheldon steals the episode by dredging up his old hatred of Will Wheaton and, while Leonard is undecided whether to go to his party or not, treating him as both his best friend and his enemy. This leads to Sheldon acting like Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde for most of the episode; he hands Leonard drinks then knocks them out of his hands, compliments his turn of phrase then berates him for his idiocy. Another great Sheldon episode.

This week we have learned that Sheldon takes his enemy list very seriously, but can have his mind changed and that men are afraid of their mothers… Aren’t they?
