UK/USA Box Office Update – 22nd June 2012: Genre Rules!

Geek & genre continues to dominates both the UK & US box office with all but a few films not being genre related.

In the US: Disney/Pixar’s latest BRAVE tops the US Box Office with first week takings of $66.7 million USD which whilst impressive is still ‘only’ Pixar’s third largest opening to date, with animated three-quel MADAGASCAR 3 some distance behind with a week’s gross of $22.2 million USD (total after 3 weeks $158 million USD).

In third and rather disappointingly is ABRAHAM LINCOLN VAMPIRE HUNTER with an opening weeks takings of just $16.5m

In The UK: PROMETHEUS continues to do well at the box office in the UK whilst MEN IN BLACK 3 & SNOW WHITE & THE HUNTSMAN continues to perform in its wake.  It’s interesting to note that AVENGERS ASSEMBLE continues to do well 7 weeks after its release, with total takings of over £50 million UKP (and almost $600 million USD in the states).
