UNIT: Extinction – Kate Lethbridge-Stewart Comes to Big Finish!

This is quite possibly the best Doctor Who related announcement I have seen in a while. Big Finish Productions, have been producing audio adventures in the Whoniverse for over a decade now but up until this point, they have been limited to characters from the classic series.

Yesterday, the company announced their latest installment in their spin-off series, UNIT and Extinction stars Jemma Redgrave as Kate Lethbridge-Stewart. Jemma Redgrave first appeared as the character, the daughter of the indomitable Brigadeer, in the Matt Smith episode, The Power of Three and has made several televised appearances since.

To me, this helps to cement the relationship between the BBC television series and the range of audio adventures – even more than references to Big Finish companions in the mini-episode, Night of the Doctor.

With the doors to “New-Who” seemingly open, can we dare hope for a series for Madame Vastra, Jenny and Strax? How about the Adventures of The Doctor’s Daughter starring Georgia Moffett? The River Song Experience?

Of course, the ultimate dream for this fan of the audio adventures is to get Eccleston, Tennant and Smith in for some continued adventures in Space and Time!

The synopsis for UNIT: Extinction is as follows:

In this four-story box set, Kate Stewart and her UNIT team confront an alien invasion by the Nestene Consciousness and its army of plastic Autons…

Three more box sets are planned to follow Extinction at six monthly intervals.
