Will Smith to Remake Sam Peckinpah’s ‘The Wild Bunch’

wild_bunch_ver2_xlgYup the remake train is chugging once again and as usual there is no film considered too much of a classic to not be trodden on and dragged kicking and screaming into ‘reimagining’ territory.  This time it looks like Mr Jiggy With It Will Smith will be bringing us his version of the 1969 classic THE WILD BUNCH, directed by the legendary violent merchant Sam Peckinpah.

The original film tells the story of an aging group of outlaws look for one last big score as the “traditional” American West is disappearing around them and stars a whose who of 60’s & 70’s cinema including Ernest BorgnineWilliam Holden and Robert Ryan.

Thankfully at least Smith, who will be starring and producing if the rumours are correct, would be looking at a modern take involving a disgraced DEA agent going after a mexican drugs lords fortune.  Smith will be teaming up once again via Overbrook Entertainment with Jerry Weintraub, who worked with him to produce the actually not terrible Karate Kid remake.

In short: meh.
