X-Men: Days of Future Past Heads to the ’70s

XMenFirstClassLogo020911-thumb-550x627-57128The new ‘Old’ X-Men leap forward to the ’70s to couple with the old ‘New’ X-Men…

With the first three X-Men films being set in the here & now, Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class turned back time to the earlier ‘6o’s in the hip & swinging days of Charles X, his profound friendship with Erik Magneto, and many of the younger mutants who would go on to form the X-Men. So get ready to strap on your sideburns and big Afros, as the news is that the sequel mainly takes place in 1973. That’s a full decade  after the events in First Class, which had its “historical” pivot around the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Returning director Bryan Singer has lined up a “future-past” cast with original trilogy actors Hugh Jackman, Patrick  Stewart, Ian McKellen and the now grown-up Anna Paquin, Ellen Page & Shawn Ashmore. They’ll be mixing it big with their “First Class” equivalents James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult and Jennifer Lawrence.

With the film taking place in two timelines, the 1973 ‘present’ and some kind of future era, the original X-Men cast members will probably only be seen in scenes depicting the film’s future. The ’70s will be a volatile era to place things, what with the end of the Vietnam war, the oil crisis, war in Israel & the fall-out of  the Watergate Scandal.

I’m just looking forward to the soundtrack & making my flares fashionable again…
