These days it seems like there’s a comics convention coming round the corner every month. We all have our favourites to attend but sometimes I hear folk complaining that it’s all a little stale – the same familiar faces selling the same familiar comics. My recent forays into the European comics scene have reinvigorated the medium for me in terms of the variety of stories and artistic styles out there. While my window into that creative kitchen has been quite narrow up until now, I can see myself slipping over the window-sill and gorging myself silly on the delights of Regis Loisel’s Peter Pan and the myriad other books that have started vying for my attention. If you’ve had a taster yourself (or have been intrigued by the choice morsels I’ve brought to you) then the BD & Comics Passion festival will be the perfect convention to indulge your curiosity and experience these different flavours.

Inside The Tardis Dress!
Posted by pythiasparlour on May 16, 2013
Cosplay can be done gloriously well, or hideously badly- a certain lady by the name of Kirsty Delwig has taken the decidedly unusual step of cosplaying not as a character, but as a console!
Here, in all its neon glory, are the controls of the TARDIS (particularly reminiscent of the version used by the Ninth and Tenth incarnations of the Doctor) as depicted in a dress!

Are Batman Characters Portrayal of Heroes & Villains Influenced by Lombrosian Ideals?
Posted by geeksyndicate on May 16, 2013
Comic books have largely been ignored by academics, yet analysis of their basic themes can shed light on many areas of interest to criminologists. In particular the Batman universe containing arguably the most realistic superhero character provides a lens through which to consider the theories of Lombroso and Baudrillard.

Drink Me: Once Upon A Time in Wonderland Trailer Lands
Posted by Sharlene Mousfar on May 15, 2013
The Once Upon a Time world is expanding! We’ve had glimpses of this new locale in the last few episodes as well as a rumored mini-series to air between seasons of OUAT. But what has actually happened is that the visit to Wonderland will actually be a full-fledged series that airs concurrently with the original in the fall!
Folks may recognize some of the faces and voices – Once Upon A time in Wonderland (is that a mouthful or what?) stars Michael Socha (UK’s Being Human) as the Knave of Hearts, Paul Reubens (Pee Wee Herman) as the voice of the White Rabbit along with newcomer Sophie Lowe as Alice, Peter Gadiot as Cyrus and Emma Rigby as The Red Queen. It’s an interesting take on the story – check out the fresh-off-the-presses trailer behind the cut: Read the rest of this entry »

Season 2 of ‘Orphan Black’ Greenlit & Series Coming to BBC3
Posted by Sharlene Mousfar on May 15, 2013
If you follow me on Twitter, you’ll know that I’ve been raving about Orphan Black since it premiered. Raving in a good way that is! The newest original series from BBC America has been greenlit for a second season to air in 2014, which makes me very happy as lead actress Tatiana Maslany is absolutely fantastic – she carries the majority of the story playing so many different characters.
What also makes me happy? In a west-to-east move, the show will be airing on BBC3 soon so my UK brethren can finally experience the intriguing, messy world of Orphan Black for themselves. Read on to learn what the series is about & check out the series trailer as well: Read the rest of this entry »

Kiefer Sutherland Back as Jack Bauer in 12 Episode ’24′
Posted by silverfox1967 on May 15, 2013
Presumably it’ll be 2-hours per episode, or shot very quickly. It had previously been mooted that Fox wanted a limited return of 24, especially after multiple failed attempts at making a movie version of the show.
After 4 years in the CTU wilderness, now comes word that everything is official: 24 will be coming back for a limited series run, and Kiefer Sutherland is back in to play Bauer again in 24: Live Another Day, (anyone else think that sounds like a Bond title!?) No clues to the plot-line, but as his correctly predicted an African-American president back in 2001, all bets are off!

GS EXCLUSIVE: Interview with ‘Continuum’ Star Rachel Nichols
Posted by darkphoenix1701 on May 15, 2013
With season 2 of Continuum set to air on Syfy UK next week, we thought it was a good a time as any to catch up with time travelling protector herself Rachel Nichols.
For those who need a refresher, Nichols plays Kiera Cameron, a City Protective Services officer in 2077-era Vancouver. Life goes on in apparent freedom under a technologically advanced high-surveillance police state but when a group of “freedom fighters” called Liber8 escape execution by time traveling to 2012, Kiera is involuntarily transported with them and joins local law enforcement to track them down while concealing her identity as a time-traveler from the future.
