This time Kehaar the Paladin and Matt the Mage are joined by Dirk the Dice of the esteemed Grognodfiles (https://armchairadventurerblog.com/about/) to tackle two umber hulk creators of roleplaying

In the red corner – the quarrelling cobbler, the titan of tables, the insurer of experience Mr GARY GYGAAAAAX!!

In the blue corner – the Shazam shaman, the two fisted terror of mythography, the Glory of Glorantha Mr GREG STAAAAAAFORD!!

Who will win ?

In the course of the Battle Royale:
  • Fifth Beatles, Brontes and Tony baths
  • debates, queries and quandaries on how this hobby grew and survived.
  • puzzles, rumours and random sidetracks

So, in other words business as usual. Show notes should not be prepared under influence of wine. Listen at your own risk.

DING! DING! Let battle commence

  1. Fun episode, guys! (I came here via a link on the Chaosium Facebook page.)

Just wanted to let you all know that Pendragon continues as a going concern under the banner of Stewart Wieck’s Nocturnal Media. After handing Glorantha off to the Moon Design guys, Greg Stafford began putting his full attention towards Pendragon, and there have been a number of new releases over the past few years. (Full disclosure: I’ve contributed as an editor and writer to some of these, both currently available and forthcoming.)

You can also access the extensive back catalogue of supplements and scenario collections there.

oh cool – we didn’t realise that it was still active. Mind you the old Greats never seem to fully die, just remain slumbering until their time to return. Thats either Arthur or a Great Old One (or both)!

  2. Very interesting! Just found your podcast and I’ll start with this episode. I’m a diehard fan of Pendragon 🙂
    Greetings from Germany!

Enjoy listening to your podcast I use it as a learning tool awhile writing. when you was talking about Avalon it remained my a lot of the Video game Crusader Kings II the closing thing to a Role Play Game I have come across on a computer where it is relays on building up your family than an empire though conquest for example I mange to create Holland in the thirteenth century by making alliances though marriage, assassination and then having a war of Independence. so just wounding if you have hear of this before game.

sorry for the delayed reply but i actually own a copy of CKII (Matt!) and have played about an hour of it. It looks AMAZING but i’m just not finding the time for the depth of attention required at the moment.

  4. Interesting i think a lot of us that started with the three brown books (real D&D has hobbits not haflings ) came from a war-gaming background I never found dnd’s rules hard at the time Chivalry and Sorcery was the realy complex
