BOOK REVIEW: The Book of the Crowman: The Black Dawn (Volume 2)

The story of the Crowman concludes in The Book of the Crowman. Will Gordon Black finally find the Crowman before the Ward, and if so will it result in the end of all things?

AUTHOR:
Joseph D’Lacey
PUBLISHER: Angry Robot
eBOOK: 345 pages
RRP: £5.49

It is the Black Dawn, a time of environmental apocalypse, the earth wracked and dying.

It is the Bright Day, a time long generations hence, when a peace has descended across the world.

The search for the shadowy figure known only as the Crowman continues, as the Green Men prepare to rise up against the forces of the Ward.

The world has been condemned. Only Gordon Black and The Crowman can redeem it.

The Book of the Crowman is a direct continuation of the first book Black Feathers. Again the story of Gordon and his fight against the Ward whilst trying to find the Crowman and Megan’s who in the future is training to be a keeper and keep the story of the Crowman alive.

This book seemed to flow better than the first one and the story really grabs you from the start and pulls you along for the ride – most likely this is because you know the characters and any major plot setting has already been done in the first novel.

I was throughly caught in Gordon’s story and his final search for the Crowman, as always his journey has not been an easy one, and now becomes even becomes even harder resulting in a shocking ending. Whilst I did enjoy Megan’s story I did find myself constantly wanting to know what was happening with Gordon.

The author has said that volumes 1 and 2 were originally written as one novel, but had to be split due to their length, so this may be the last we hear of The Crowman. However whilst the story was ended brilliantly, there is still some scope for a bit more story, so we shall have to see.

Another great novel by D’Lacey, and now I have both volumes I can’t wait to re-read them again as a whole. A great conclusion to the Crowman story, read it now.
