Everyday geek style for the nerd on the go.
Fancy yourself as something of a stylist? Well, check out these Marvel inspired outfits before having a go at making your own.
Those of you that know me will know that I’ve been signed off work for over a month thanks to stress at work. So what have I been doing to pass the time if I haven’t been writing any reviews I hear you cry? Well, one of the things I’ve been doing is rekindling my love affair with the Polyvore website. It’s a place where you can put outfits together using a seemingly endless database of clothes and accessories. It’s incredibly therapeutic too, even if it does waste time. But its a productive waste of time, especially if you like putting a kickass outfit together. For those occasions when you can’t wear that Avengers t-shirt, you can build yourself an outfit inspired by your favourite character so that you still feel like you’re representing them. For example, I wear purple on a pretty much daily basis (friends would say it’s become an obsession), and with my short bleached hair, there’s a reason that my nickname is Barton.
Once on the Polyvore website, all you do is click create, then you can build your ensemble by dragging items onto your ‘canvas’ from the list on the left. You can choose anything you want, right down to perfume. The items range from jewelry in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, right down to tank tops priced at just a few bucks. The fashion world is your oyster! I’m a sucker for a red carpet outfit so I started with those first. Then I built a whole load of casual ensembles for the everyday look. I tend to wear outfits every day that are inspired by a different character anyway so I’m in absolute heaven and can can spend an entire day making outfits. One of the great things about doing this is that next time you’re out shopping (or online if you’re like me and hate crowds), you’ll find yourself spotting things and thinking “that would be a great shirt for that Bucky outfit I’ve been thinking about”. Yes, it won’t do your wallet any favours, but at least you’ll look fabulous!
I’ve done an outfit for most of the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy so far and can be found here:
Why don’t you check them out and then have a go yourself?
Oh, and I take requests.
