Final Crisis Aftermath – Dance #1 review

And again with the needless Final Crisis tag.  OK, OK I’m gonna leave it this time.

I thought that one of the most interesting groups to come out of the Final Crisis was Japan’s Super Young Team, even if I couldn’t figure out what the point of them was.  I really didn’t know what good they were at all but I found them fascinating.

 So here’s the roster,

Most Excellent Super bat –(I loved his war cry – “Witness the Power of Money Unleashed”) – he has money

Big Atomic Lantern Boy – he has a big energy shooting lantern in his chest

Shiny Happy Aquazon – she has a water thing going on

Shy Crazy Lolita Canary – she small, has wings and a loud scream

Well-Spoken Sonic Lightning Flash – He’s very fast and dances like a mad man

Seriously I’m just typing the names and I’ve got a big grin on my face, how can you not be up for exploring characters like these.

Joe Casey is writing and I think does a good job of characterising what I think are DC’s most of the wall characters in ages,  ChrisCross was on art duties and made me jump jump. Yea I know it’s cheap but I’m trying to fill space because I don’t really know what to say here.

The story centres around the Super Young Team getting a load of funding from powerful benefactors who have built them a satellite base to rival the JLA.  They then throw them a launch party with lots of minor celebs, all the while Most Excellent Super Bat is posting to his Twitter account.

However despite what most young people would jump at the chance for, the team feel out of place because they are not really fulfilling their potential.  It also becomes obvious fairly early on that all is not what it seems and the team are being manipulated – but to what end?

Considering I keep saying I loved this book its feels really strange that I haven’t really got a lot to say about it.  It’s a little different to most of the other superhero stuff that’s out there, and the plot looks like it’s building to be a pretty major one.  It made me grin in places, but brought no surprises, I think the best thing it’s got going for it is that it’s a little kooky, which shouldn’t really be enough but still, it’s got me coming back.
