TV REVIEW: Castle – Season 5, Episode 10 ‘Significant Others’

castle_season_5_188u0ue-188u0ujI don’t know about you but I am suffering with a severe case of mid-season drag at the moment with Castle.  The start of the season was full of excitement; Castle and Beckett were together and everyone was wondering how would this change the dynamic between them. Then there was the fun of them sneaking around and thinking everyone didn’t know (even when they clearly did.)  Afterwards was episode 6 ‘The Final Frontier’ which I still maintain is one of the best episodes in all five seasons.  But that last few episodes have been (dare I say it) a bit dull?

This week sees Castle’s ex-wife Meredith turn up to look after a sick Alexis.  When she invites herself to stay with Castle, tensions rise along with Beckett’s blood pressure. In the meantime a high-profile divorce lawyer who only represents women is found dead in an alley.   This is pretty much all I can tell you about the cast this week as it felt like the murder was just an afterthought.   I’ll be honest to say that there was nothing interesting about the murder whatsoever.

The only saving grace for this episode is the tiniest hint that we might get to find out a bit more about Castles background in the coming weeks.  Specifically, a sly line from his ex makes Beckett wonder about how much he has opened up to her and how much he really knows about his father.  It has been alluded to in previous episodes that he was/is high up in government.  Could this be something that we will build towards as we get near the 100th episode?

A very forgettable episode from a show that usually gives us at least one or two memorable moments every week.
