Dr Who meets burlesque

Posted by geeksyndicate on April 23, 2013

Drs Now I’m all for a bit of cross platform exploration but I was stunned into a moment of speechlessness (and that doesn’t happen often) when one of my new students informed me she was performing in a Dr who themed burlesque night.

Cabaret Roulette, hosted at Madame JoJo’s in Londons Soho, is a new kind of vaudevillian experience, in which eight artists representing the widest possible array of styles and disciplines are given two months to develop a new act on a single theme chosen by you, the audience. TV REVIEW: Doctor Who, Series 7 Episode 5 – “The Angels Take Manhattan”

Doctor Who Logo - 2010 Version

After five short weeks, we’re finally here in New York for the last pre-Christmas episode of this series. Steven Moffat is back on writing duties for his first episode since Asylum of the Daleks. As regular readers will be aware, I’m normally a fan of the show-runner’s episodes, but does this one end the run on an emotional high or low? Does the story conclude what it should in a satisfactory manner? Read on after the break for the full review …

Would You Like a Drink from a TARDIS Liquor Cabinet?

Posted by littlewitchuk on September 25, 2012

So what do you do if you like alcohol and Doctor Who? Create a TARDIS-inspired liquor cabinet, of course! This is one cool storage option if you’re lucky enough to have a large enough alcohol collection.

However, this looks like a custom job which means I don’t have to make room for one. Yet.  However I do like the idea of a TARDIS for a DVD cabinet perhaps. Check out the larger photo: Read the rest of this entry »

World War II Dalek Dress

Posted by littlewitchuk on September 25, 2012

Cosplaying as a Dalek can never be easy, however one woman has made it look very cool. She has created this amazing Dalek dress, clearly based on the Victory of the Daleks episode.  She even has a cup of tea! I am really impressed with the originality of this outfit and would love to get a closer look at how she put it together – check it out behind the cut: Read the rest of this entry »

TV REVIEW: Doctor Who, Series 7 Episode 4 – “The Power of Three”

Posted by wedgedoc on September 22, 2012

Doctor Who Logo - 2010 Version

As we approach what I’m going to call the mid-series break (I refuse to treat this block as a separate series, so there!), we’re presented with a look at Pond life when the Time Lord is not around. Sort of, anyway. Chris Chibnall’s latest episode is a modern-day (slightly future?) Earth and sees the Doctor trying to fit into his companions’ regular lives while he tries to figure out the purpose of billions of strange black cubes that have appeared all over the planet. Read on after the break for the full review …

Dr Who Audio Drama Spin Off ‘The Minister of Chance’ Available for Free!

Posted by geeksyndicate on January 19, 2012

I’m forever on the hunt for  my next audio drama fix and not too long ago I found that fix in the welcoming arms of The Minster of Chance, featuring the adventures of a defrocked  Timelord.

The Minister of Chance is a new form of entertainment – a radiophonic drama – made using a combination of film and radio techniques and delivered by podcast. It is the first, but we hope not last, of its kind. By painstakingly constructing soundscapes we create worlds that you can drift into wherever you are.

Posted by geeksyndicate on December 13, 2011

Here we are again, just in time for christmas.

In this episode Ant and I explore Frostfire & The Suffering two audio adventures featuring companions Vicki and Steven, read by the original actors, Maureen O’Brien and Peter Purves.

I then have a chat with the multifaceted Barnaby Edwards – This guy was the dalek operator in the Christopher Eccleston adventure entitled Dalek and has been in every dalek episode since.  He also writes, acts, directs and produces many Big Finish stories.

Find out which BF story is his favourite, what he thinks of the new dalek design and wether dalek operaters have a harder time than R2D2
