I’m pretty sure that the big guns in Hollywood are keeping one fixed on any interesting projects they can snap up coming out of the indie scene. One of these may be Project S.E.R.A.

Green Hornet Movie Trailer

Posted by geeksyndicate on June 22, 2010

That’s right folks Seth Rogen’s Green Hornet finally gets a trailer. First off I thought the car aka ‘Black Beauty’  looked cool Kato was bad ass and there’a was some nice looking set pieces. My problem which is what I thought it would be from day one is just don’t see Seth Rogen as the Green Hornet. It looks like this will be more of an action comedy than straight up action.

My problem is I loved pulp heroes like The Shadow, Doc Savage, The Green Hornet, The Phantom and The Rocketeer. The thing is I love them when they are set against that 30′s backdrop and I always seem to lose a sense of that magic when they are given a modern day spin.

I’m hoping I’ll change my mind once I see the finished film but at the moment I’m not holding my breath.

Anyway check out the trailer for yourself.

Edward James Olmos joins Green Hornet

Posted by geeksyndicate on August 11, 2009

edward-james-olmos-

SCI FI Wire is reporting that BSG star Edward James Olmos ( he’ll always be Lt Castillo from Miami Vice to me) has signed on to appear in Seth Rogan’s Green Hornet.

There no mention of what role he’s playing but given his performance in BSG does it really matter?

Green Hornet finds another Kato

Posted by geeksyndicate on August 10, 2009

A while ago we reported that Kung Fu Hustle star, Stephen Chow had left Seth Rogen’s Green Hornet film. The hunt to find a replacement has now ended with the casting of Jay Chou in the role of the Green Hornet’s ass kicking side kick.

When speaking about Chou’s casting the films’s  director, Michel Gondry, had this to say. “Jay is incredibly unique and charming and fights like a wild dog!”

Another news surrounding the film is Nicolas  Cage is in talks to play a villain and Cameron Diaz is lined up for the role of love interest.

All of this news is great but I’m still not convinced Seth Rogan is right for the title role. I really hope he can pull this off because if done right this could be a great action adventure film.

Green Hornet’s car to be revealed at San Diego Comic Con

Posted by geeksyndicate on July 23, 2009

The guys over at Total Film have stuck up an image of a car covered in a sheet in their wanderings at the comic con. It looks like there will be a big reveal of,’ The Black Beauty’, the car being used in Seth Rogan’s upcoming ‘Green Hornet’ Flick.

You can check out the picture here (although there’s not much to see)

The Green Hornet film loses Kato

Posted by geeksyndicate on July 15, 2009

Stephen Chow of Kung Fu Hustle fame has left Seth Rogen’s Green Hornet film. Stephen had originally come on board as a director as well at the Green Hornet’s sidekick Kato.

On Paper The Green Hornet is a film I should be excited about but I’m the complete opposite. I mean a masked vigilante with an ass kicking sidekick and a car outfitted with gadgets galore, called “Black Beauty”  what’s not to like? My main problem is yeah I’ve enjoyed Seth Rogan in some of the films I’ve seen him in but I just can’t picture him in this role. At least the not the way I want to see the role played.  I also want Green Hornet to be straight up pulp adventure and I’m worried even though Seth says he’s playing it straight that I’m going to get the ‘Knocked Up’ version of The Green Hornet.

I hope you prove me wrong Seth.

The Green Hornet finds his Kato

Posted by geeksyndicate on September 20, 2008

I’d almost forgotten that bloke from ‘Knocked up’ was supposed to be helming and starring a movie adaptation of ‘The Green Hornet‘. It seems now that things are starting to move forward. Over at The Hollywood Reporter the news is that Stephen Chow of ‘Kung fu Hustle’ fame (which I’ve still yet to see…yes I know I’m crap) has joined the production as Hornet’s trusty sidekick Kato, the role last held by the awesome Bruce Lee. Not only will Chow be co-starring in the movie alongside Seth Rogan but this movie will mark Chow first gig as a director on an American movie.

I’m looking forward  this movie but at the same time I’m apprehensive. The only role I’ve seen Rogan in is ‘Knocked up’ and at the moment I just can’t see him as the Green Hornet. I also hope they don’t update it and to it’s 30′s roots like the radio show and give it a real pulp flavour.

Ok now the picture on the left is The Green Hornet, the smooth and Dashing adventurer and picture on the right is Seth Rogan, complete with beard and dodgy 70′s porn perm. I think you can see my worries. Sure he’s slimming down for the role but that’s not my issue. I just can’t seen that dashing, smoothness in Rogan you need for the Green Hornet. I hope he proves me wrong as if done right this movie could be awesome.

We’ll have to wait until June 25, 2010 to find out.
