Sláinte Mhath! Outlander Renewed for 2nd Season

Time to break out the congratulatory whisky and yell “Sláinte Mhath!” because Starz has just renewed its new series, Outlander for a second season! With 900,000 views of the first episode online leading to a total of 5 million across all platforms  – I’m not surprised at all by this news.

The show is adapted from the book series by Diana Gabaldon and as this season is following the first book, the second will follow suite and cover the story from Dragonfly in Amber. With eight novels already published and an eventual ninth on the way, we could potentially have plenty of Outlander goodness to come for quite awhile! But I won’t get ahead of myself (too much anyway!)

Starz CEO Chris Albrecht says that “The overwhelming support Outlander has received from the fans, viewers and critics made the decision for us to go ahead with the second book a very easy one.” Additionally, “Diana Gabaldon has given us years of great drama. With an incredible artist such as Ronald D. Moore at the helm and a cast as spectacular as this, we look forward to continue this spell-binding journey with Claire, Jamie, Frank, Brianna, Roger and everybody over the centuries.”

Something to note is that the order for Season 2 might be shorter at 13 episodes, which is still more than most premium cable shows get (like 10 episodes for Game of Thrones and True Blood). I wonder if it will be enough to tell the complex story but am looking forward to the casting of two very important characters (an attempt not to spoil here – book readers will know who I’m thinking of!). What are you most looking forward to?
