Sophie Aldred joins us for the SFX Weekender 3

Doctor Who’s Ace companion is making the journey to Prestatyn

There were lots of things wrong with Doctor Who in the ’80s – the ropey monsters, the fact it aired midweek and Colin Baker’s dress sense to name three, but one thing ’80s Who most definitely got right was the Seventh Doctor’s plucky companion Ace. And the good news is Sophie Aldred, who appeared regularly as Ace from 1987 to 1989, will be travelling though time and space to join us in Prestatyn for the SFX Weekender 3 from 3-4 February 2012.

Both pre- and post-Doctor Who, Aldred has had a successful career in children’s television, even providing the voice of Dennis in the 2009 Dennis The Menace And Gnasher cartoon. But we all know her best as the “professor’s” baseball-bat-wielding companion (real name Dorothy), who stood by Sylvester McCoy’s side for two full seasons from “Dragonfire” to “Survival” (the last episode of Classic Who), reprising the role for the 1993 Children In Need special “Dimensions In Time”. Aldred is a fan-favourite on the convention circuit as has kept the character alive in the intervening years by appearing on a number of Big Finish audio adventures.
