According to The Wrap the casting crew of the 24 reboot has found its lead. Corey Hawkins who played Dr Dre in Straight Outta Compton will star in the reboot as “strong and smart” character with a rough background who “turned his life around in the Army Rangers.” He lives in Virginia with his wife Nicole, but he’s “pulled back into action as his past comes looking for him.”
Personally I don’t want to see another 24 series, certainly not one without Jack Bauer. I could have been a little more onboard if Bauer was in there to hand over the reins so to speak (although there are rumours of a cameo). However my opinion is going to do squat to get the big American TV producers to change their mind. I’ve not seen Straight Outta Compton but I’ve heard nothing but good things about the performances so that’s a major tick in the box for the casting.
The phrase ‘a rough background who “turned his life around in the Army Rangers’ worries me. I’m so tired of the ‘I was in a gang then I turned my life around’ trope so I’m really hoping they go a different way to hit the same emotional notes.
So even though I’ve said this is a bad idea to reboot will I watch it? Hmm odds are I’m going to at least check out the pilot episode.
Let us know what you think about the casting? Will you be watching or will you be done with 24?
