The Event is coming to Channel 4 this October

I’ve been noticing that a lot of the new and returning US shows are getting their airing date over here and a lot sooner than ever before. It’s been a trend that’s been building over the years which is great news for us brits. I hope that this trend not only continues but that the gaps between us and the US get even shorter.

The latest new show to be picked up for a UK airing is The Event which is being touted as the next big thing since Lost. Big words I’m sure we’re all agree but at least we won’t have to wait to long to see how much truth there is in that.Channel 4’s big new acquisition launched in the US on Monday to 11 Million and was NBC’s most successful series launch in three years. This is despite airing against competition from ABC’s ‘Dancing With the Stars’ and CBS’ comedy ‘Two And a Half Men’. To compare, this was the same figure as House on FOX at the same time.

The Event – 24 meets the X Files meets Lost – has an ensemble cast that includes Blair Underwood (LA Law, In Treatment) Laura Innes (ER) and Jason Ritter, son of the late John Ritter, and will air in October on Channel 4/HD

An emotional high-octane conspiracy thriller, this much anticipated new US series makes its UK premiere on Channel 4 this autumn.

Sean Walker (Jason Ritter) is an everyman who, while investigating the mysterious disappearance of his fiancée Leila (Sarah Roemer), unwittingly begins to expose the biggest cover-up in U.S. history.

Sean’s quest sends ripples through the lives of an eclectic band of strangers, including newly elected U.S. President Martinez (Blair Underwood), Sophia (Laura Innes), the leader of a mysterious group of detainees, and Sean’s shadowy father-in-law (Scott Patterson).

Their futures are set on a collision course in a global conspiracy that could ultimately change the fate of mankind.
