Very brief glimpse of Sherlock coming to BBC this summer

Ever since it was annouced that Steve Moffat aka the Moff  and Mark Gatiss were working on a mordern version of Sherlock Holmes I’ve been watching the net waiting for a glimpse of what to expect or at least a transmission date. Today while scouring the net I finally got an answer the series will be staring sometime in July.

The  three episode series entitled Sherlock stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Holmes and Martin Freeman as Dr. Watson,Rupert Graves as Inspector Lestrade and Una Stubbs as Mrs. Hudson.

I was sad to hear the pilot episode will not be aired (apparently it wasn’t up to scratch) so instead we’ll have to make do with the three ninety minute episodes.

After his stellar work on Dr who I’m really eager to see what Moffat has planned for his modern take on the classic sleuth and at least now I won’t have too long to wait.

If you watch the trailer below at the end you will get a very brief glimpse of the modern day Holmes and Watson.

The iconic details from Conan Doyle’s original books remain – they live at the same address, have the same names and, somewhere out there, Moriarty is waiting for them.

Steven Moffat says: “Conan Doyle’s stories were never about frock coats and gas light; they’re about brilliant detection, dreadful villains and blood-curdling crimes – and frankly, to hell with the crinoline. Other detectives have cases, Sherlock Holmes has adventures, and that’s what matters. – BBC Press Office
