TV REVIEW: Castle – Season 5, Episode 15 ‘Target’

My last 5/5 review for Castle was based on the humour, warmth and overall geekiness of the episode ‘The Final Frontier’. Full marks on this episode are for the exact opposite.

The story starts normally enough, our team are presented with a hit and run to solve but it soon turns out that the murder is only a small piece of a bigger picture.  A picture which involves two young women being kidnapped and one of them is Alexis….

Distraught at the thought of losing Alexis and focused on getting her back.  Nathan Fillions performance is stunning.  I was in tears a couple of times when I watched it the first time (trust me you will watch this more than once).

We are used to seeing Castle as a warm, joking character whose optimism and imagination usually brightens even the darkest situation.  But not this week… this week we see the dark side of Castle and IT. IS. SCARY.  He perfectly portrays a man torn between despair and stopping at nothing to get his little girl back

There are more than a few nods to Liam Neeson in Taken but because we have had five years of witnessing the father/daughter bond between Castle and Alexis the kidnapping seems even more heinous.

I can not recommend this episode enough.  Killer performances, edge of your seat tension and Nathan Fillion finding his dark side.  Watch it now!
