TV REVIEW: Castle Season 6, Episode 7 ‘Like Father, Like Daughter’

Events take on a serious tone in this episode of Castle. Well, it’s kind of hard to stay light hearted in tone when you are dealing with a man about to be executed for a crime he (possibly) didn’t commit.
Alexis enlists her Dads help on a case that she has been working on in her law class, even though she is still unhappy with him over his treatment of her boyfriend Pi.  I’ll be honest (and I mentioned this in a past review) I don’t really like this storyline.  It feels forced and not a natural progression.  Anyway, my initial eyebrow-arching aside, Castle takes the opportunity to spend some time with his daughter to try and bond by trying to prove a man’s innocence.
Castle and Beckett spend most of this episode apart and it’s a testament to the strong supporting cast that the show has built up that this doesn’t hinder the story.  In fact, seeing Lanie, Esposito and Ryan all help out with the case is a nice touch.  It’s a reminder that the show isn’t only about the two leads.
The mystery itself could have come from the pen of John Grisham.  A man accused of murdering his teenage neighbour has only hours left to prove his innocence and save his life.  Castle and Alexis are a great team and it shows that the sleuthing gene has passed from father to daughter.
This wasn’t the best episode of the season so far but it was enjoyable to try and figure out whodunnit.
