TV Review: Futurama Season 6 Episode 17 – Law and Oracle

Fry finally has had enough of his working conditions and lack of career path at Planet Express, so he decamps and joins the police force. He quickly rises through the ranks and is made part of the Pre-Crime Division. This, however, is when things start to go horribly wrong… As always.

Of course the Pre-Crime department is a nod towards Minority Report, but Fry manages to hold on to his eye and not be teamed up with Samantha Morton for this episode. Instead, he has to stop Bender from committing a crime that is foreseen by the Oracle. The only problem is, Bender has no idea what he is going to do.

Futurama is on the up and up lately. This is another fantastic episode of the show where the possibility of living in the future is explored nicely. Fry gets some self esteem and a little respect, Bender is at his evil best, and there are robots, intrigue and mystery. Seriously, what more could you ask for?

Bender has some great one liners, and it is always a joy to see Hedonism bot on screen (what was he built for? Anyone?)

The only quibble is that Fry joined the police to impress Leela (to an extent), so does this mean they are not together any more? Or that they never were? Hmmm… Continuity seems a little messy with regard to Fry and Leela’s relationship and while it will not ruin the episode, it is a little mystifying…
