Summer of Indie: Nunkie Theatre Audio Release and Tour

You may recall a review I did a while back on the brilliant Nunkie Theatre dramatisation of some MR James ghost stories.  If not, here it is.  I’ve just received the following press release from the actor Robert Lloyd Parry with some exciting news on that front:

I am delighted to announce the launch of Nunkie Audio, and the first two titles in the collection, which are available to buy now from

“Curious Creatures: The Shorter Horror of M R James” is a double CD featuring 9 little known, brief works by the Master of the English ghost story, including two that have – as far as I know – never been recorded before.  It also features music from the wonderful old gramophone at Hemingford Grey Manor, which links it neatly to the other release:

“Two Strange Tales by Lucy Boston” – a single CD in which I read ‘The Tiger Skin Rug’ and ‘Curfew,’ two eerie short stories by the author most famous for the much-loved Green Knowe series of Children’s books.  ‘Curfew’ has been described as one of the best stories written in the M R James tradition.  Why not make up your own mind and by both CDs at a special reduced price? [see website for details]

In other news I shall be touring the UK from October – December 2011 with the M R James trilogy, premiering a new show in Cambridge in December 2011, filming a DVD of “Oh, Whistle…” in the new year, and working on an adaptation of H G Wells’s The Time Machine for performance at The Lowry, Salford, in Spring / Summer 2012.
I’ll be checking all of these out.  I recommend you do the same!
