Thought Bubble Festival 2009 is this weekend People…BE THERE!

We had planned to give over a huge amount of this week’s episode to The Thought Bubble Festival being held this weekend in Leeds. In typical fashion and for various reasons we are unable to bring you an episode this week.

I thought rather than not mention the  Thought Bubble at all  I would stick a few lines on the site about this awesome show.

I attended the Thought Bubble for the first time last year with little idea what to expect and found it was one of my best comic/convention experiences of last year.  The vibe at the con itself was great  and I picked up a load of comics and met a lot of cool folks in the both guise of the creator and  fan.

I went to a few of the panels that were also going on which were pretty cool (The crazy hour long Mark Millar being my favourite).

In the evening I attended  the party at the Alea Casino (which was pretty much next to the convention). It was there I attended my first ever evening panel. I know crazy right? There I was sitting in this plush red room that looked like a boudoir  with a beer in one hand and a whisky in the other listening to the guests. I was a bit wary when I first heard about this idea of an evening panel but I have to say it worked really well and the whole panel had a really chilled out and fun atmosphere. After the panel I just headed back out into the bar area and continued to drink/ chat and laugh with assorted  comic fans, creators and publishers until..well that’ s where it gets hazy as I can’t remember the exact time  I left.

Thought Bubble 2008 - partying in the Alea Casino

This year it seems the organisers have gone crazy with a ridiculous huge line up of guests and events. Don’t take my word for it take a look at their guest list. You’ve got such names as Frank Quietly, Ben Templesmith, Charlie Adlard, Doug Braitwaite, Mike Carey,Paul Cornell Duncan ‘Hellboy’ Fegredo and many more.

When I attended last year I met quite a few Small Press guys who hadn’t done some of the other big conventions (BICS,MCM and Bristol Comic Expo) so it was good way to check out some of the Small Press work I’d not seen before.  I’m hoping this will be the case this year.

As I said before the Thought Bubble have a load of panels going on throughout the day which you can get a list of here. One of the first things you notice when you check the list is that there are a load of events kicking off, from Thursday onwards, even before the main Comic festival starts on the Saturday.

In short if you’re into the comics and want to immerse yourself in that world with your peers then I would definately check out the Thought Bubble Festival.

Saw your panel at Thought Bubble in the Alea- easily one of the highlights- I was also lucky enough to chat with the two of you later (I was the bald guy going on and on and on about the Invisibles). I’m looking forward to listening to some of your podcasts (your panel was a great advert for your show)- Cheers. Sean.
