Marvel Confirms Ed Norton Exit!

Looks like the Rumours we’re true!

Marvel Studios President Kevin Fiege Made a statement to HitFix from the London set of Captain America: The First Avenger in it he said:

“We have made the decision to not bring Ed Norton back to portray the title role of Bruce Banner in the Avengers. Our decision is definitely not one based on monetary factors, but instead rooted in the need for an actor who embodies the creativity and collaborative spirit of our other talented cast members. The Avengers demands players who thrive working as part of an ensemble, as evidenced by Robert, Chris H, Chris E, Sam, Scarlett, and all of our talented casts. We are looking to announce a name actor who fulfills these requirements, and is passionate about the iconic role in the coming weeks.”

Could that mean that Edward Norton wasn’t going to play  nice with the rest of the cast? or was he asking to rewrite the script himself like he has done one his movies in the past? it was reported he clashed with the studio over the final cut of “The Incredible Hulk”

who do you think could replace Norton as Banner?

The Avengers, is directed by fan favourite Joss Whedon, stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Samuel L. Jackson. The movie opens on May 4, 2012.

Well it certainly is rather uncomplimentary to Ed Norton to essentially say he’s not a team player. So I’d guess that either Norton wanted more of a role or they felt, after working with him, that his vision of Bruce was not what they had in mind. Since they specifically said it’s not money, seems like it’s artistic differences and they are laying squarely at Ed’s feet. Personally, I think he’s a good actor and artistic integrity is a big deal to him — so if the two visions don’t match, this was probably a good idea. That said, Fiege’s statement seems to be a bit uncharitable IMO.

      Thanks for the reply

I think it will turn out for the best as there was obviously some disagreement on some level and that wouldn’t be good for the film no matter how god of a actor Edward Norton is. it would create a bad atmosphere which would only hurt the movie. i’m excited to see who they do cast.

  2. In common terms, “Ed Norton is a douche. We would have gladly paid him, but we had a hard time with him, so he’s out!”

I have no ide who would replace Norton, but I hope he’s nerdy-looking.

Current rumour on Bleeding Cool is that Marvel are looking at Joaquin Phoenix for the Bruce Banner role. TBH, I think that statement from Kevin Fiege should have been proof read before going out, as to me it reads like a attack on Ed Norton. Whether he’s the right guy or not, best not to give an actor’s lawyer ammunition for libel.
