“Sin City 2 could film next year” – Robert Rodriguez

Robert Rodriguez seems to have his hands full with projects these days. His 16 year Predators passion-project has finally come to fruition and will be hacking, slashing, and ripping its way into cinemas in a couple of days. We enjoyed it, calling the Nimrod Antal directed project ‘a fun cat-and-mouse thriller‘ from our press screening on Monday night, and it’s easily the best movie featuring the Predator character since the late 80′s original.

Next up for Rodriguez is the awesome-looking violence-fueled Machete, based on that infamous Danny Trejo starring Grindhouse trailer, which comes out in September with an intriguing cast (including Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Steven Seagal and recently jailed Lindsay Lohan).

Once Machete is in theatres, Rodriguez will begin lensing Spy Kids 4: Armageddon – which we are telling you now we won’t be seeing but if he decides to take up Fox’s offer to helm Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool movie, we would be the first in line. However, we are skeptical Fox (despite funding his Predators) would give Rodriguez enough freedom for him to be interested in directing a superhero movie.

And besides, Rodriguez seems much more interested in adapting Madman, a comic by Mike Allred he optioned way back in 1998, and that he still has an option on.

Then there’s also Nervewreckers, his original sci-fi project that sounded pretty cool when we first caught wind of it last year.

To cap it all off, there’s also the Sin City sequel which he talks about making every three months or so, but which never seems to come to anything;

We’re still working on Sin City, I want to do it so we’ll see. It’s just a matter of when… We have a script… a rewritten script that we still have to write and it’s just finding the right time slot to do it.”

He does mention that he hasn’t committed to anything yet after Spy Kids, so theoretically a Sin City 2 shoot next March could be possible.

I really hope he “finds the right time slot to do it” pretty damn soon anyway. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some superhero movies, and Deadpool’s an awesome character, but my faith in 20th Century Fox has somewhat dimmed (to put it lightly) after the atrocity that was X-Men Origins : Wolverine.

To me, Sin City is one of the best comic literal adaptations to date that more than demands a sequel. I’m stoked that Rob still has this baby in his mind, and man, we wanna see Angelina Jolie in A Dame To Kill For, and Johnny Depp in To Hell and Back, right?

Thanks to Obsessed With Film for this heads up!
