The Umbrella Academy has a screen writer

When Gerard Way write his first comic book for Dark Horse Comics in 2007, the usual hoo-ha hit the interwebs debating wether the front man for the band My Chenmical Romance had the chops for such a job and maybe he should just stick to writing songs for folk that like that kind of stuff.  My intial feeling wasn’t far different I’m afraid to say and after hearing a few negative reviews i really wasn’t bothered.

However when some mentioned that the heroes got attacked by the Eiffel tower, well that sounded like my brand of weirdness, nd I have to say that after bpicking up The Umbrella Academy…

umbrellaacademy1-thumb-300x450-15946…..I loved it.  The Academy is a group of disbanded superheroes who reunite after the death of their adoptive father Reginald Hargreaves, who adopted them shortly after their birth and trained them to save the world. It reminds me in some ways of Grant Morrisons Doom Patrol so if you liked that you’ll be at home here.  It’s kooky, it’s pulpy, it’s fun, it’s even shocking in places and it seems there’s no stopping it. It won an Eisner Award and now has been optioned for the screen by Universal.

Mark Bomback has been tapped to adapt the comic.  His writing credits include the DC comics adaptation Constantine and Race to Witch Mountain.  Make of that what you will.
