Writer Joins The Man from UNCLE Movie

So the  a big screen version of “The Man from UNCLE” TV show is one step closer with a writer,Max Borenstein, reported to have joined the project.

I remember watching the Man from Uncle as a kid and the one word I would use to describe that show was “Cool”. From the names (I mean who would dare  name their characters Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin today?) to the cool underground headquarters with an entrance in the back of a dry cleaners. Let’s also not forget their arch enemies T.H.R.U.S.H. or Technological Hierarchy for the Removal of Undesirables and the Subjugation of Humanity (Now that’s one hell of a mission statement!).

The show was less serious than the Bond films (where the Connery ones anyway) and always had  it’s tongue firmly in it’s cheek. The show also had one of the most memorable TV themes there was at the time ( and still in my opinion).

Also some of the titles of their TV movies were just plain gold. I mean lets see we had…

  • The Spy with My Face
  • One Spy Too Many
  • One of Our Spies is Missing
  • The Spy in the Green Hat
  • The Karate Killers (My first fave)
  • The Helicopter Spies
  • How to Steal the World (and my second fave)

I’m not sure what I think about this project and whether it could work or not. Robert Vaughn and David McCallum were so iconic in those roles that they would be difficult to fill. On saying that if they can manage to fill Kirk, Scotty and Bones’ shoes in Star Trek then anything is possible.

So let’s have a stroll down memory lane shall we? If your foot is tapping to the music by then end of this clip then you’re officially dead!
