DC Dispatches: Batman vs Superman, Wonder Woman & The Flash

Whether it’s Warner Bros, The CW or the DC stable themselves, here are the world-wide mutterings!

This week: It’s cast news all ’round, as Gal Gadot gets a 3 picture deal for Wonder Woman, Alfred & Lex Luthor cast in Man of Steel 2 and villains cast for The Flash.

Batman vs. Superman: Warner Bros. surprisingly announced that Jesse Eisenberg will play Lex  Luthor while Jeremy Irons will take on the role of a no-doubt “classic comic” Alfred in the Man of Steel sequel. I think that Irons is an inspired choice for Alfred, and will be a contrast to Michael Caine (which worked for all the wrong reasons). As for Jesse – well I was surprised, but after Heath Ledger’s Joker, I’ll reserve judgement and wait to see the final product… it certainly seems that they may well be going down a Smallville route in the casting of the Big Boy Scout’s biggest villain.

The Flash: The Flash TV show has cast Supervillains: Vampire Diaries star Rick Cosnett as Professor Zoom, and The Crazies and Friday The 13th reboot star Danielle Panabaker as Killer Frost. Panabaker will play bioengineering expert Caitlin Snow, who lost her fiancé during a lab explosion, while Cosnett will play Detective Eddie Thawne, who is new to the Central City Police Department. Now, in the comic universe, Eobard Thawne is the alias for Professor Zoom, a villainous ‘Reverse-Flash’ who can mimic The Flash’s superspeed with but with a murderous agenda. Caitlin Snow meanwhile, is the real name of Killer Frost, a Firestorm villain who conjures ice spikes and sub-zero temperatures, whilst “feeding” on human life to stay alive. Given this latest Arrow season’s penchant for introducing new characters, I can’t wait for The Flash to launch…

Wonder Woman: Gal Gadot signed up for a three film deal as Wonder Woman, DC Comics’ leading female character, including the on-off-on-off solo Wonder Woman movie. The three movies will earn the star $300,000 each time, and Gadot is expected to appear in as Diana are Zack Snyder’s already character-heavy Batman Vs Superman/Man Of Steel 2, as well as the Justice League movie. That said this three film deal a below par compared to the typical nine movie deals that other studios hand out (Marvel, Fox) indicating that Warner Bros are reportedly extremely cautious about the hostile reaction to the Gadot casting – it all comes down to how she’s received in Man Of Steel 2. Again I say, desist with the body-shaming and give the girl a chance!!!
