Marvel Mutterings: Spider-Man, X-Force,

Whether it’s Fox, Sony or the Marvel stable themselves, here are the world-wide witterings!

This week: Spider-Man 2’s storyline, X-Force film to be “beyond impressive”, Lizzie Olsen talks Scarlet Witch !

Spider-Man: With the first trailer out this Thursday, Sony has put out a synopsis for next year’s arachno-sequel: “We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man,” the release says. “But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead. It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realise that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.”

X-Force: X-Force and Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld hit the caffeine and then Twitter with a raft of tweets regarding Jeff Wadlow’s X-Force movie project. In summary: it’s plausible that there could be standalone X-Force and Deadpool films 6-12 months apart; there will be 4 key sequences for long-time X-Force, Cable & Deadpool fans; he’s read the current draft of the movie and was beyond impressed, but he’s not dropping any hints on the casting… good times ahead!

Avengers: Age of Ultron: Elizabeth Olsen has been speaking about her upcoming role as Scarlet Witch, aka Wanda Maximoff, the powerful reality-warping member of the Avengers, who will be joined by her brother Quicksilver, played by Kick-Ass 2‘s Aaron Taylor-Johnson, but with no mention of being the father of “sshhh – you-know-who”: “I hung out with Mr Whedon recently,” said Olsen. I’m really excited about this movie. I’m so excited about Scarlet Witch. I have had so much fun reading all about her and I am like learning new words that I had to look up on Wikipedia. I’m really enjoying it. I just love Scarlet Witch. I love her. It’s so funny because I’m often talking about all these psychologically damaged people, but when you talk about Scarlet Witch… She is a messed up lady. She has got more shit to deal with than anybody else I know. I’m excited to figure out what’s appropriate to use for her, because there’s so much material from all of these decades, and we’re going to tell this one story. So to be able to choose what you’re going to bring into it from all of this abundance, it’s really fun.”
